Lane Community College Scholarship - Recipient of $4,500
Ryder Biehler says he is eager to join the workforce.
With that in mind, the recent Cottage Grove High School graduate is using his Lane Electric Cooperative $4,500 Lane Community College Scholarship to attend that school and earn an associate of science degree. He then plans to transfer to Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls with a goal of earning a degree in geomatics with a focus on surveying.
“I’m really excited about receiving the scholarship and I think it’ll be a cool adventure to go on through college,” Ryder says.
Ryder graduated with a 3.94 grade point average and he says his goal is to maintain that high of GPA through his college courses.
At Cottage Grove High, he was involved in a couple projects that helped develop his leadership. He was one of the students that managed the student store and he was part of a group that researched and then had four water bottle filler stations installed at the school.
He also took classes in marketing, business management and advanced business concepts.
“I think Cottage Grove teaches you a level of responsibility that prepares you for the workforce,” he says.
After college, he thinks he may work for a utility, but hopes to eventually own his own surveying business.
“That would be a cool venture,” Ryder says.
