CANDIDATE STATEMENT
AFFORDABILITY!
We moved to rural Lane County in 1988 and have been with Lane Electric ever since. In that time I've seen our electric bill increase five fold. I would support legislation that would limit power sales to data centers and crypto mining to surplus and non firm power contracts. Members should not have to compete with billionaires for power to heat our homes. Recently LEC has increased it's service charge per meter to $49.00 a month and additional meters to $39.00 a month (that translates to $88.00 a month before paying for any electricity if you have two meters).
The board of directors also removed the two tiered rate for power delivered. I would advocate for it's return. I think that the less power that you use, the lower the rate should be. I would also advocate for raising the limit on net metering for customers that produce their own renewable power beyond their own needs and sell it to the utility. Distributed generation is a good thing.
In closing I believe that my prior experience would be beneficial to the current Board of Directors.
